C LANZBOM is one of the most powerful, creative and emotional guitarists in the country, a man capable of effortlessly moving between a myriad of styles and blending them all with his distinctly exotic flair. There's a defining grace in everything he plays, bringing a comforting familiarity to his music, whether it's his work as a solo artist or anchoring his beloved band, SOULFARM.
C LANZBOM grew up at the Jersey Shore, memorizing guitar solos, note-for-note of Jerry Garcia, Duane Allman, and Eric Clapton, as well as jazz artists Charlie Parker, Lester Young and Charley Christian. Lanzbom studied with jazz saxophonist-keyboardist Lenny Popkins, a direct descendent of the great bebop pianist Lenny Tristano. Lanzbom wanted to absorb the essence of music, not the technique. The feeling should come first, he reasoned, and technique would surely follow. It certainly did. Lanzbom became the music- a man who spoke and moved in sound.
Fueled by Lanzbom's captivating guitar leads, his band SOULFARM has shared stages with friends Steve Kimock, Merl Saunders(at the Bill Graham festivals in San Francisco), Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction), Paul Pena and Dispatch. The band has opened for Bruce Hornsby and Shawn Colvin at the hugely successful Ben & Jerry's Festival in Vermont, and for Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart. They have played on the cultural stages of Berlin, Germany and SOULFARM has a wide fan base that regularly sells out Manhattan clubs like BB King's Blues Club in Times Square, and has also packed the city's famed Town Hall. Through extensive tours of the U.S. and Europe, C LANZBOM has also gained increased notoriety on college stages and at festival gatherings on two continents.
C LANZBOM has always nurtured a solo career that allows him to broaden his musical horizons. Since 1996 he has released four solo albums that explore his classical, acoustic, and more improvisational and world beat leanings and which have collectively sold over 50,000 units.
His first three albums, Beyond This World (1996), From This Day On (1998), Meditations (2000), tapped into the spiritual side of Lanzbom's signature Middle Eastern grooves. The influences evident on that album go from Americana-style acoustic folk, to Renaissance to new age jazz. His latest release, Dreams (2003), features percussionists Jeff Haynes (The Pat Metheny Group), and Gilad (Al Di Meola). The album is a mixture of soulful, percussion laced, Latin, Hebrew, and World Beat instrumentals. As always, C Lanzbom manages to weave together all his varying styles to create a common thread of delicately intricate guitar excursions.
