Lester Hirsh has been compared to Gordon Lightfoot, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash meets Allen Ginsburg with Woodie Guthrie looking on. He's a poet, singer songwriter guitarist, who performs mostly on an acoustic 12 string guitar, Spanish 6 string, harmonica and vocal. In 2005 his Spoken Word CD, Mosaic Poems of an Ancient Order was nominated for a grammy. In 1997, he was a
finalist at the Napa Valley California Emerging Songwriter
Contest for his songs Whistle in the Wind and On the Road in America.That same year he was listed in Marquis Who's Who in America and his song To Have You By My Side was selected to be on a 12 song collection called Notes From Home to entertain troops stationed in Bosnia.
A touring member of the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts and the Schuylkill County Council On the Arts, Pottsville, Pa, Lester works with Special Needs Audiences and instructs writing workshops when not touring the East Coast. In 1978, along with Kathleen Radspinner, he toured
8 midwest states for the National School Assemblies Program, as the duo Jerusalem. They also performed at the All Souls Church in Washington DC along with legendary
Hazel Dickens (Harlen County U.S.A) for the striking miners of Stearns Kentucky.
Lester is currently at work on an instrumental CD, poems from the coal region and new songs he hopes to debut in 2006 while setting up a spring tour and taking time this
winter to settle and write.
