‘I’m enthusiastic with everything because my mind travels around multiple places without stopping once’
He still remembers… He was born on June the 15th, 1978 -after 24 hours of labour!- in the already disappeared Saint Michel’s Clinic, in Lisbon.
‘I’m the consequence of the new Europe and the new era of the divorce’, he says, serious, to explain that he is a son of two parents from different countries from the old continent (Spain and Portugal). Parents that got divorced in 1985.
That’s when (in that braking moment, key in his life) the little ‘Pintainho’ or ‘Luisão’, his mother –Esther- and his beloved sister –Margarida, Fofi- arrived in the Castilian capital Ãvila, where they fixed their usual home.
They left back the ‘Pai’ (father), the grandparents, the Algarve’s summer house, and a very special friend, Nuno Lópes, inseparable and unforgettable mate in his childhood. A childhood, says the artist, ‘marked with a special nostalgia’, and marked also with a ‘traumatic’ school beginning.
A lot of water under the bridge since he was a child, hidden behind big prescription glasses (more characteristic in an eighties computers engineer than in himself), he was already gifted with a huge imagination, he started to let his mind fly way with auditions of a Portuguese female musician and also with some video clips, like the one of Duran Duran, which visual effects captured his attention so much.
Talkative, bilingual, cinephile, music lover and vitalist, ironic, pigheaded, radio contributor, fond of a couple of fried eggs with French fries (and also lover of Oporto wine), he wrote a book, a short-movie-script, and he is preparing a couple of new projects.
He studied two years of Business in Salamanca and after quit he got back to classroom in Ãvila to start a new course, Computers, but the death in October of 2003 of his mother –woman that marked him since the beginning- forced him to dedicate exclusively to his mother’s business, a tobacconists. Any time he can, he counts on his family and friends.
He hates what he calls ‘voluntary uncultured’, and also hates violence, aggression and the lack of respect to others. He seems not to stop but he knows that he is not constant in many things.
Self-taught person in the music subject (he doesn’t had the opportunity to learn music), he’s able to enjoy with classical genius such as Bach while at the same tame he likes also Elvis, Marley or even Metallica. But if is there someone from whom he is real devoted that is Vinicius de Morais, and other music composers of the so-called MPB (Brazilian Popular Music): João Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Caetano Veloso… As them –his references- Luisão surprises with his magic and involving voice, the control of the Portuguese language, and also having a very personal style. In a concert he has a companion, his guitar, ‘my best companion’ he says, comparing the instrument with his latest relationships.
A summer Thursday, on July the 28th of 2005, he gave his first concert in a packed Adarve (a night pub in the city of the famous walls where he uses to go), and besides he was very nervous at the very beginning, in a short time, his people and friends –including lovers of good music that were present- gave him quickly the strength he needed. It ended as a huge success.
Do not forget his name, because this can be the starting point of a great story, and Luisão, everywhere he goes, he wont disappoint anyone. Of that I am sure.
