By the time she was 5 years old, RN Avis Williams was singing regularly in church with her parents in Jamaica, W.I. "My passion for singing was appreciated by my parents" she says "But my parents made sure that Education was the top priority"
Williams came to New YOrk in the late 1970's and earned her RN License in the early 1980's. Shortly after, she took job as a medical, surgical nurse at a Teaching hospital in Queens, where she is currently employed.
She later returned to school, earning her BSN and MSN degrees with a specialty in Diabetes Management. Avis also became a 1199 Union Delegate, but her love for music never waned. She sang at work for her patients, she sang at weddings, church, parties and funerals.
This CD, mostly love ballads is appropriately titled "Healing Melodies". "If I'm feeling happy or sad, I sing" she says, "I even sing the uses and possible side effects of medications I give". I enjoy singing and writing songs to which others can relate. "Nursing is my duty, my conscience and my career, but singing is my passion, my love, my life."
I thank God and I will continue to pray that he'll improve, maintain and sustain my voice.
