the country's number one "polka cuzzin" is new york city veteran accordionist and bandleader walt procanyn who resides in the queens section of the "big apple", walt is know throughout polka circles as a maverick and innovator. he is revolutionizing the polka by incorporation singing violins, big band polkas, vocalists and much more.
walt has headed his own big band of musicians since he was honorably discharged the us.navy. he recorded numerous cd's for the crystal tone & arc international recording company.
he is currently recording exclusively for eastwind international artists based out of new york city. his professional musical training and his polish and ukrainian background have influnced his music throughout his life. walt said," i always had a love for the liltiing sounds of the polka.
in the us.navy he became a member of the navy special services. he placed first in the all navy talent contest by beating out several hundred "swabbys" he toured the country with the us.navy band and appeared on the ed sullivan all navy talent championship show.
walt's musical direction is by no means limited to just polka music. he and his band are proficient at playing big band music, al la benny goodman, glenn miller, ray anthony etc. walt speaks fondly of a benefit he and his band performed at the shriners zembo temple, in harrisburg, pa. for the children of the burn unit. performing for charitable causes brings joy to walt and all his merry musicians.
