Cherokee Wind officially formed in March of 1998. It's members are veterans of other well known groups in the southern region and have performed with such artists as: IIIrd Tyme Out, Ralph Stanley, Boys From Indiana, Mike Snider, Carl Story, Charlie Louvin and many more.

Carl Towns began the group after returning from Europe where he toured as a Country Solo artist for several months. Upon his return, he and his parents visited a Bluegrass Festival and Carl knew this was where he belonged.

"The moment I walked into the festival area, I knew in my heart that I was back to my roots where I belonged and I would never leave it again."

He and his parents, Joe and Polly Towns, are former members of "The Bluegrass Harmoneers", who toured for 15 years in the USA. They decided to start Cherokee Wind, and picked up Chester Prince, an original member of Cole City Bluegrass, as their mandolin player.

Cherokee Wind performed without a Bass player, until the fall of 2000, when Charles Mann came on. Along with his good humour and strong beat, Charles is a welcome addition to the band.

The name itself was derived from the groups Cherokee Heritage, which is evident in their music and the songs they sing.

Their wall of harmony thunders like a heavy drumbeat over the rain of music in your ears. Watch Out! There's A Storm Coming!

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING...........
"Folks, if you don't know this band, you need to find out where they're playing. They played my festival last May, and put on a great show--some traditional classics, and enough original material to make it interesting. If you're a promoter, book 'em. You won't be sorry."

"An associate and I were working the Chattanooga area last week, and ran across the street to get a Bar-B-Que plate to go from Circle C's Bar-B-Que. When we walked in there these guys were, and I said "let's stay for a minute and see if they're any good". Needless to say, we stayed the whole time, and the guys were great. What a fun surprise, for this guy on the road, who happens to love Bluegrass. These guys were super" - Ed Cross - Bluegrass Fan

"Cherokee Wind has harmony that is hard to beat and it blends naturally with their music. Top that off with a group of fine people and you have a great band. If you haven't seen them or heard them, you don't know what you are missing!" - Owner of Circle C Restaurant.
