Hi. Welcome to my cdbaby webpage. If you hit PLAY ALL SONGS you can listen to my music while you read or browse.

Listening, Not Thinking is a collection of acoustic instrumental tracks I recorded over time with various musician friends. It centres around my nylon string guitarwork, in combos with flute, sax, double bass, percussions. As a composer I have many influences, so you'll find elements of classical, jazz, latin, world and blues in my music; including the Brazilian Bossa Nova which has been a major influence on my playing and writing style.

Over the years I have been inspired by artists such as The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Joni Mitchel, Crosby Stills and Nash, America, Carlos Jobim, Luis Bonfa, Tommy Emmanuel and Ralph Towner.

If you have a response to my music, feel free to click below and leave a brief comment (but please, no expletives!).

TRACK NOTES

SONGBIRD: Blame it on the Bossa Nova. The intro melody was kindly supplied by a Pied Butcher Bird (we think), singing in the very early hours one morning. I put chords to the 'melody', and composed the body of the piece reflecting on the subtropical ambience of Noosa in Queensland. The recording was assisted by Qld. RADF with Noosa Council. Soprano Sax:Craig Hanicek; Bass:Bruce Cale; Percussions: Anil Kumar & Ian Cameron.

CONQUEST: an early latin feel piece, featuring the fine flute playing of Lisa Cheshire. Percussion:Anselm Van Rood.

FAIT ACCOMPLI: A pensive piece acknowledging the truth of a lost love. Flute by Louis Mitchel.

RIVERBOAT: A solo guitar riverboat cruise.

BEYOND THE BRIDGE: A fingerstyle groove with clay pot by Jalberto.

WAITING BY THE SEA: A sombre classical guitar piece with some alto flute by Lisa Cheshire.

DAINTREE FREE: A song for the Daintree Rainforest in North Queensland, featuring the dancing flute of Damion Boicus. Robbie Besano on double bass.

THE SPREADING BITUMEN BLUES: A solo guitar reflection on the changing landscape of our motor car dominated world.
