The Cream Of Australia's Fiddlers, the Fiddlers Festival has grown from humble beginnings at the Tamworth Country Music Festival eight years ago into one of the most sought after acts at all major festivals around Australia.
Featuring some of the best fiddlers and violinists in Australia, the 'Fiddlers Festival' is a group of musicians playing an eclectic collection of music ranging from Jazz, Fusion, Celtic and Country to Contemporary.
The Fiddlers Festival not only performs but is dedicated to developing all aspects of Australian fiddle playing through education, composition, school development and international touring.
Fiddlers involved with Fiddlers Festival under the musical directorship of Marcus Holden have included George Washingmachine, Mark Oats, Lindsay Martin, Andrew Clermont, Ian Cooper, Clare O'Meara, Ray Schloeffel, Lindsay Martin, Jane Brownlee, Nigel Maclean and Mick Kerin. What began with about four fiddlers in 1996 has seen over 36 fiddlers involved with various productions around the country.
As a result of its involvement in setting up the Hawkesbury National Fiddle Festival (which takes place on the weekend before Easter every year and attracts fiddlers, music lovers and agents from around the country and overseas) the FF was invited to perform in Japan. A return visit took place in July 2002 after their successful trip in August 2001 with another planned for late 2003.
After performing at major events and festivals around Australia including Woodford and Port Fairy Folk Festivals, Gympie Muster and Tamworth Country Music Festival, the Brisbane Festival, Australia Day, New Years Eve, Federation Celebrations and the Famous Spiegeltent, the Fiddler Festival is now mapping out an international promotional tour.
With their new CD "GET REEL", the FF is proving to be a
show which breaks barriers between the genres of music promoting Australian fiddle playing as a unique and distinct world music style.
