Nothing is more annoying than a band that says they sound like no one else in the business, that they are totally unique, that they are wholly original. Dovetonsil makes no such self-righteous claims. AU CONTRAIRE (because French sounds good). Dovetonsil sounds like EVERY OTHER BAND THAT EVER EXISTED. Check it out: Dovetonsil IS a funk band, IS a rock band, IS a speed metal band, IS a jazz band, IS a Latin band, a folk band, an alternative band, a country band, an Irish band, an experimental band, an avant garde band. Dovetonsil makes no claims about their originality because, let's face it, the only true originals died several hundred years ago.
Dovetonsil, on the other hand, takes all of that great shit that came before them and shoves it into a whirring Feefy Donaldson Sonitransfactorizer, which pukes forth an array of genre-busting sounds some people like to call songs. Songwriter John E. Citrone employs all of the usual tactics ñ from cheese to chance ñ to come up with most of the crap on the latest Dovetonsil CD, Gobbledygook, so named because of its general unpredictability and mish-mosh ethic. Playing most of the instruments himself, and with the help of much more talented friends, Citrone will take the blame (but will not pay out in damages) for any mental anguish suffered by those who listen to this sucker.
Gobbledygook is constructed thusly: Begins with a lovely rocking funk tune with a Caribbean midsection then progresses into a radio-friendly power rocker. A few songs in, there is a fantastic pop country tune, then a song about two adolescent dinosaurs wrestling in a field on summer vacation. Later, catch up with the man who wants to have an extra head connected to his spinal cord. We find out what happens when fat people smoke, dig a buzz-sawish speed metal about suicide, some sound experiments, a classical flute solo/duet, some spoken-word shit. Blah blah blah, you get the point, eh? Anyway, if you really wanna know what it sounds like - go listen.
