To hear The Mighty Guys perform - live or on record - is to experience a wonderful spiritual communion with the body, substance and soul of rock'n'roll. They can prickle hairs, goosebump flesh and sweat brows - because they are real, they are honest and they are talented.
When The Mighty Guys came together in Sydney, Australia in mid-1980 there wasn't much need for extensive rehearsals. A notebook and a busy pencil established a list of more than 100 songs common to the repertoire of all three. They just got up on stage and hurled themselves into songs as familiar as cross-threads to a plumber. From the first blow it was obvious, to players and listeners alike, that the coalition was a blessed one. The union was so stimutating to all three that they began to write new songs with which to express the developing musical identity.
The overt rockabilly style was tempered to the point new terms where needed to describe the music. Some fairly accurate ones tossed about include: Beatnik Rock'n'Roll, Eccentric Rock'n'Swing, Maynard G. Krebbs Beatabilly and, with wonderful economy and accuracy, rock'n'roll.
A band with no slight pedigree, all have decades of experience. Mick Hamilton started out with 1960's beat group The Moods ('Cos Of You', 'Rum Drunk') bassist Phil Eizenberg was a member of the chart topping Ferrets in the 70's while drummer Leon Isackson commenced his lengthy career in 1959 with Dig Richards & The RJ's.
"No frill, no fatty tissue, no flab, The Mighty Guys roots-boogie-rock 'n' reel sizzles lean and taut with homor, personality and loads of shoulder shakin' flash." (Juke Magazine)
