Chanteuse/pianist Amy Jo released her self-titled EP in May 2003, the incredible follow-up to 2001's "Dancing With Oscar" and has spread her musical zeal throughout the southwest. Her poppy blues tunes and delicate fingertip dances on the piano have won over even the most cynical of rock venues. She has gathered fans by being a regular act in Dallas' Deep Ellum music scene, opening for national touring acts, and performing with organizations like Women Rockin' 4 Women and Go Girls Rock, and has appeared on Austin's FOX 7 "Good Morning Austin" program. Providing the driving rhythm behind the drums is Brandon Burr and moving on the low end is the bass player's bassist, Rick Read. Top it off with some tickling of the ivory keys, and they have a tight trio ready to make the room move from hushed confession to playful jazz.
Amy Jo's self-titled EP featuring crowd favorites "Rock Star" and "I Don't Write Love Songs Anymore." This EP showcases her more whimsical side as she explores straighter rock beats (Rock Star) and cabaret-esque number (200 Miles.) She whips up her own sultry tunes one moment on stage, and then can pull out a Tool cover the next. Inspired by the energy of performers like Bono, Billy Joel and Tori Amos, she delivers intense performances and hooks that wont' go away.
"Darker...dramatic...on the deep end of the keyboards."
- Buddy Magazine May 2002
"Amy Jo is quickly becoming one of the most popular singer/songwriter/performers in the Dallas area. Her golden voice puts her in the singing super elite...she's putting out quality songs that will be enjoyable to the masses once some record company gets smart and signs this woman. "
- Harder Beat Magazine - September 2002
"Being in the right place at the right time, I caught Amy Jo and picked up this, her first release. Along with Amy Jo (vocals/piano), the band is rounded out by Bradley (drums) and Eric (bass). They have a truly unique sound, although they'll undoubtedly draw comparisons to the Fiona Apples of the world. The songs have tremendous depth in the arrangements, songwriting, and lyrics. Amy Jo delivers on such bluesy tunes as "Settle" and hits hard vocally on the crescendo of "Purify." However, the true masterpiece is "Oxygen," which takes the listener on a sonic, cerebral ride that clearly displays Amy Jo's penchant for arrangement. Add in that she's gorgeous, and you wonder how she was never asked to a high school dance. Well she gets her revenge on Dancing with Oscar. Make sure you become a part of it."
