Year of the Dragon was a concept of Roderick Byron Palmer. He had played in a number of different bands over the years and, as he puts it, "I lost the love of
making music for the sake of making music. It became so success-driven that I forgot I got into this because of a love affair with sound." So he assembled a bunch of different friends to write and record some songs that make up the Year of the Dragon c.d. available through this site.

Year of the Dragon is also unique in its live show. Palmer decided that he didn't want the pressures and headaches of assembling a band, so he simply calls up the many people that have played on the c.d. to see who will want to play at any given time. "It takes us no time at all to rehearse to tightness, and it is just fun for people to see us and not know who is going to be on the stage." All Palmer usually requests is that whoever plays with him be ready to entertain a crowd. According to him, "If people pay to see you, they deserve the best of whatever you have to give them. And I'm not inspired by slackers anyway!"

The c.d. was recorded by Gary 'Yo Gee' Brown and Darryl 'D-Style' Swann (co-writer/engineer/producer, Macy Gray), who also play on it. Some other notables include guitarist Leland Bell (Zoo/BMG act Spade Ghetto Destruction), guitarist Ron Cox (a local session giant and axe-man with popular Los Angeles outfit Cakecutter) and drummer John Montgomery (of Los Angeles art-punk legends Bottom 12 and Cakecutter.
