Before the commercial wave of watered down music that you hear today was playing, a band called Harms Way was ripping up stages all across the country. Harms Way was opening up for such artists as Kid Rock (who produced many tracks for them) I.C.P., and their good friends, Pantera. Well as time went on, the music biz b.s. began to wear on certain members. Those members came and went, but the
core of the group, Razor Ray (guitar and vocals), and Steve Berger (bass), a.k.a. 2Def, remained intact with one goal in mind...BLOWING UP. During member changes, none other than The Insane Clown Posse approached Razor and Steve. They were asked to go on the Bizaar Bizzar tour to play guitar and bass for them (make up and all). Without even hesitating, they signed up. After playing many dates and living the life that major label artists do, they knew the level they wanted to achieve with their own music that they self-coined RAP & ROLL.
But who could they get to take it to that next level and fit into the puzzle? Well, they had done many shows with Mob Mentality, a collective of hardcore M.C.'s, including a guy named Sadistic (formerly known as Mindbenda). Sadistic was grinding it out in the scene producing for Y.T.G., as well as playing shows with many national acts such as I.C.P., Mystikal, Onyx, Das Efx, Eminem
(before he became a household word) and House of Krazees
(now known as Twiztid). They knew he had an understanding
of the hip-hop scene as well as a love of the hard rock/metal genre of music. When presented with a chance to play with Detroit's premiere rap/rock duo, Sadistic decided to check it out, saying, "Well, I'll do a song." The initial meeting turned from one song into two in the first night, and thus, chemistry was born.
Completing the puzzle was Stone Mojo's bass player/drummer
and longtime friend of the band, Bernie Alexander, a.k.a.
Burn-1. Upon hearing the new material, he decided to jump on board right away and see where this music ride would take him. However, he had one condition; let him produce the first album and he was in.
A year later, Motown Rage is here, coming with the straight fire. The self-titled debut is out and is taking the group to the next level. And what separates them from all of the rap/rock bands that are out now? Sadistic says, "None of these front men of the so called rap/rock bands have got lyrics. At least nothing to make you say, 'I can't believe he just said that'."
Motown Rage delivers a style that is rapid, quick-witted, sometimes brutally honest and musically diverse. That alone puts them ahead of the pack, with an ability to tell a good story, rock a party, and spark a reaction out of anyone. And if you don't believe any of this,
see them live and they will put all of your doubts to rest. With years of stage experience and enough energy to tear down a whole city block, Motown Rage is the next big thing.
