The following is an abridged version of an article/interview
with High Strangeness creator, Quade Iorg
By Otto Spliff
It has been said that an artists responsibility is to interpret the world around themselves, and to share that interpretation with the rest of the world. According to High Strangeness, that responsibility is to be respected in spite of the possibility that the world may not respect the interpretation.
"Shout at the Level, and High Strangeness in general, in my opinion is about getting the public's collective mind out of it's box; so to speak. It just so happens that in order to do so we need alot of noise and distortion, and all that other neat stuff."
High Strangeness was conceived by Quade Iorg, while living in Salt Lake City, UT. After growing tired of the monotony of most heavy music, he decided to move back to his hometown on the U&O Indian Reservation,
and do something new rather than nu. " I got really sick of it [Salt Lake music] real fast, I mean, like one can only take so many bands whose soul focus is being cool, and BAD-ASSed; you know? Like. it seemed to have gotted to the point where every jack-ass with Chuck Taylor shoes
thought he was DimeBag fuking Darrell, but I'm NOT talking shit about SLC bands, there are many talented people there, however sometimes it seems the jack-asses have them out numbered 5 to 1."
SHOUT could be called the essential independent metal experience. All material was written,
preformed, recorded, produced, and kept alive by Quade Iorg and three other contemporary producers/musicians, over the winter of 2003.
"I went with a real punk rock approach to alot of this album, most of the guitar and vocal tracks are first takes, and I didn't really concern myself with getting a nice Bob Rock-ish production quality; you know? This is real independence for music lovers, and artists in general."
But don't assume this to be a punk rock album, Quade has combined elements of metal, hard rock alternative, electronic/ambient, and just about anything else he felt like. "If you listen close, you might hear a Johnny Mathis impersonator spitting out a mouthful of static."
Quade is currently involved with an as yet unnamed experimental rock trio, and has begun work on a new solo album titled INHALE THA CHEMTRAIL, to be released by fall of 2004.
When asked about any final words, he replied not-so-simply "Did you ever watch Reading Rainbow with Levar Burton, you know, the guy with the visor on Star Trek, anyway, at the end of the show when they would review the books, he used to say something like 'don't take my word for it', implying that we should read those books for ourselves; right? Well thats how I feel about this record, don't just read this and call it good; buy it, hear it for yourself and form your own opinion, or rather, interpret it in your own way, good or bad!"
