Carlos Barbosa-Lima is one of the most creative, adventurous and versatile acoustic guitarists on the world stage. Born in Brazil, Carlos studied with Andrés Segovia. Since his U.S. debut in 1967, he has enjoyed a global concert career. His brilliant, distinguished Concord albums of the 1980's and 90's include collaborations with guitarists Laurindo Almeida, Charlie Byrd, and Sharon Isbin. Bassist Eddie Gomez has been on the cutting edge of Jazz since his debut in the 1960's. His impressive resume includes performances and recordings with Jazz giants Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Evans, Gerry Mulligan, and Chick Corea. Oscar Hernandez is one of the most gifted pianists on the Latin and Salsa music scenes. He has performed and recorded with the Ruben Blades Band, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Julio Iglesias, and Ray Barretto.

“Mambo No. 5” celebrates the Golden Age of Latin popular music, in 20 songs mostly from the 1930's - 50's, in guitar solo and small group arrangements by Carlos Barbosa-Lima. Principal guest artist is legendary Jazz bassist Eddie Gomez. The magic of their first collaboration is apparent in their irresistible take on Mambo No. 5, and their high energy, lightning speed version on the samba “Tico Tico”, both with concentrated, spectacularly virtuosic Gomez bass solos. Other highlights are Carlos' brilliant new solo versions of several hits by Ernesto Lecuona such as “Siboney” – which receives a sensuous, deeply atmospheric workout.

• “ …. a musician gifted by the goddess of music…” Andres Segovia

• “… one of Brazil's most respected guitarists … generates killer rhythms with utter nonchalance. Latin music fans will treasure it. Highly recommended! Larry Nai, ejazz.com
