Chris Albertson is a composer/ instrumentalist who has appeared on stages throughout the north eastern U.S. including the Portsmouth Jazz Festival and featured guitarist at many college concert stages. His music has been heard on modern dance performances throughout New England as well. His study of African drums and work with modern dance has resulted in his most recent CD "Ikala". Virtually all instruments on the album were performed by Chris including various percussion, guitars, bass, keyboards, vocals and a handful of wind instruments. A veteran music teacher, he has molded influences from Africa, Latin America, jazz, rock, classical and bluegrass into his own blend.
This album was created specifically for modern and transformational dance. All but one piece has repetitive polyrhythms as the foundation so a dance teacher can start anywhere to teach specific techniques. Yet the music over these percussive parts is moving and thoughtful making it enjoyable for the listener and easily interpreted for modern dance performance. One piece, "Transformation" was designed specifically for dance performance and is in 4 distinct parts. The flow of each piece has clear moods which can easily be interpreted for free dance as well. This album is highly recommended for people who love to move.
