Baba Jubal brings life to the tradition of story telling. His highly interactive dramatization of African folktales captivates and educates the audience.
The title story "JaliMa Finds Trouble," a Mandinka folk tale from Gambia, West Africa, shows how a young boy learns the consequences of disobedience and dishonesty.
The second story, "We Can Live Together," comes from the Yoruba people of Nigeria. In the story Lion Hyena and Vulture learn the value of harmonious relationships and the consequences of disrespect.
Both stories and the accompanying songs and rhythm game are wonderful educational tools that help childhood professionals, parents and teachers make learning an enjoyable inspiring activity. Students will listen to wonderful music played on the kora, the balaphone, djundun, aseko and djembe drum. Schools in Canton, Marysville, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio are using this compact disc in their arts-integrated curriculum.
Listening to stories is the first step to literacy. Talking about them is the next step. "JaliMa" will create discussions into geography, history, social studies, language, and science. Writing a description and/or critique of the stories is a great follow up.
