In 1999 I spent the Christmas Season on Tour in Japan, a country where less than 2% of it's people celebrate Christmas. Up to that time, Christmas had become for me a time of stress and obligations. But taking something away forces you to examine the importance of it in your life. With the help of some Talented musicians I've tried to capture here the elements and emotions of the Christmas Season that are meaningful to me. The arrangements and musicians represent 13 years of some incredibly inspirational Jazz Christmas Vesper Concerts, and the Music and Musicians span 6 continents. May you enjoy listening to This CD as much as we enjoyed making it!
BARRY SAMES brought his jazz music into the church in 1990, composing and arranging for jazz vespers concerts in both local and national U.S. church settings. A few years later, his ensemble was selected to perform for the national Lutheran Churchwide Assembly. This experience laid the foundation for his first CD "Awaiting the Spirit", a Gospel/Jazz CD that was released in 1998 and was highly praised in the music community. That same year he was commissioned to write and perform a new Sacred concert for big band, strings and choir. Barry continues to receive many accolades for his music ministry.
