Bert No Ernie is one-man bass and vocals band somewhere between punk and jazz. Bert No Ernie is Jim Osmer with a little help from John Depalatis on this CD. These songs are compositions not improvised solos and are heavily influenced by Nomeansno, Victim's Family and the Minutemen.
Making Fish: A Fever Dream Reinactment is an odd concept album released in 2000. The plot comes from a real fever dream and is not easy to follow. There is whispering and mumbling under the bass lines. There is blood, tears, semen, sweat, saliva, adrenalin and bile in the water.
This album includes experiments with a capo ("Growler"), overdubbed grungy basses ("Downstream Effects", "Skull Shaped Egg, Egg Shaped Skull"), delay pedal ("Insomnia", "Maelstrom"among others) and the amazing euphonium live performance of John Depalatis ("Maelstrom", "Fountains and Pools"). Remember "Insomnia" is only one bass part and a first take.
Mike Watt did his bass rockopera and now you can hear the first bass concept album by Bert No Ernie.
