OK, first things first - I know the title is misspelled. But that gives it character, right? The title came from a great trip my wife and I had to Scandinavia (see, its right this time), where we did 5 countries in two weeks, on an amazing number of forms of public transport.
I'm a proverbial rocket scientist by day (did you hear about NASA hitting that comet - that was me, and has taken up the last 5 years of my life), but have been playing piano since my mother started me at 6. I took lots of lessons and learned some simple theory. I found I like fiddling around better than memorizing long classical pieces. So I naturally gravitated toward jazz. I played trumpet in grade and high school (hard to march with a piano), and two years of college. Then I got serious about rocket science (physics really - but ultimately rocket science), and had a ~10 year sabbatical from the piano. After finishing grad school, and finally earning some money, I picked up a keyboard and started playing again. With a little more patience and a need to blow some steam I started playing in pick-up bands, and now a semi-serious blues band, called Bent Nails (see the link).
So this is my first attempt at recording what I do many a night, play some nice melodic tunes, sometimes with a twist. The album was something I had planned to do for two years as a holiday gift for family and friends. They enjoyed it and this is your opportunity to do so as well. Now that my work life is getting a little less hecctic, I'm starting to plan another one, so look for it this fall.
Enjoy,
Don
