The Canal Street Hot 6-For the Very Best In Dixieland Jazz Music

The Canal Street Hot 6, (Formerly the "Canal Street Jazz Band"), takes its name from that legendary street in old New Orleans upon which jazz music originated, once flourished, and still carries on its grand glory today. The group was formed in order to carry on, to perpetuate the illustrious tradition of the original New Orleans style of Dixieland jazz music. Founded some years ago by the renowned Dixieland trumpet stylist Ben Mauger, the Canal Street Jazz Band is comprised of only the very most crack exponents of this music. Featured members include Ben Mauger-Trumpet & Cornet, Dave Wilson-Tenor, Soprano, & C Melody Saxophones, Clarinet, MikeShank-Trombone, Tom Pontz-Piano, Bruce Campbell-acoustic bass, Chris Santiago-Drums. Its fame has quickly spread throughout Central Pennsylvania, where it is now one of the top musical groups in its field, having appeared at such notable events as the People's Choice Dixieland Music Festival in State College, Pennsylvania, Camden Yards for Baseball's Baltimore Orioles, The Tri-State Jazz Society (Philadelphia), and the Bethlehem (Pa.) Musikfest to name just a few. The group has just recorded a CD entitled “Back In The Day”, which we are very proud of and which has gotten great reviews locally. We also have a brand new 4 song EP that is just smokin’. Canal Street feels it is only a matter of time before it is playing some of the top Dixieland jazz music festivals across the country. Dixieland jazz music is characterized by its bright, happy, uplifting nature. It is music for the people; it is accessible to everyone. And it has a real patriotic flavor, because of its very nature and because, after all, jazz music is one of America's few true indigenous art forms. The "Canal Street Jazz Band" looks forward to a long career in the music, and hopes to meet each and every one of you at any one of its exciting venues coming up in the future.
