Alan Thompson, Jr. currently works as a part-time musician at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. On occasion, you will find him at "Coke Corner" or the "Plaza Pavilion" on Main Street U.S.A. performing vintage classics of the 20's up through the 50's, many of which can be found on his CD album entitled, "Flight of Hands." This catch phrase derives from the piece Rimsky Korsakov wrote called, "Flight Of The Bumble Bee." The intricate composition later inspired the making of a song that would be featured in Disney's cartoon classic "Melody Time," called "Bumble Boogie." Listening to Jack Fina at his best compelled Alan to produce a CD dedicated to the masterworks of Scott Joplin and Pete Johnson. Ragtime and boogie woogie has always made a great combination, which insures that "Flight of Hands" will most definitely make a great purchase.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Born in Hollywood, California, Alan Thompson, Jr.'s passion for music was apparent at an early age. Captivated by the masterworks of famous composer John Philip Sousa, his desire to become a noteworthy musician would begin as early as elementary school. Trumpet was Alan's instrument of choice, and he quickly became soloist in his school bands. Performing vintage classics such as "Johnny B. Goode" and "Georgia On my Mind" sparked Alan's interest in a style that was the craze at the turn of the 20th century - a syncopated style that people called "ragtime."

Overflowing with syncopation and intricate rhythms, Scott Joplin's "The Maple Leaf Rag" steered Alan into becoming the ragtime pianist featured in this album. Joplin is regarded as the "originator of ragtime" and his compositions are among the best-known syncopated melodies in the country. While "tickling the ivories," he also tickled the hearts of thousands across America. Joplin's genius introduced the style that gave direction to Alan's musical ambitions and inspired him to create his own boogie woogie ditties.

Alan Thompson, Jr. uses an extensive variety of American standards such as "Ain't Misbehavin" and "In The Mood" to create popular medleys that will surely remind you of the musical time that columnist Westbrook Peglar called "the era of wonderful nonsense." All of these favorites, coupled with the foot-stomping beat of the "boogie woogie" will most certainly keep you entertained by this dynamic virtuoso.
