The newest release from Ecovox Records, a socially conscious, environmentally sensitive record label from the smog-drenched armpit of the Inland Empire, is the fourth full-length release for the sonic folk band Beatnik, VIVA! APOCALYPSE.
The band's sound has been compared to that of an angry Simon and Garfunkel. While the basis of every song is an acoustic guitar, these guys aren't averse to using electric leads, cowbells, taiko drums, tamborines, a cello, or even the occasional whistle. The band sings about the injustices visited upon people by a corrupt regime that has seized power and ruined the American dream.
The music ranges from the slow and powerful opening track, "The Aftermath", which rallies liberal forces after the recently stolen election, to the hard-edged rocker, "Abu Ghraib", which relates the loss of moral authority once thought so crucial to our democracy. The emotional and introspective tone of "The Rain" tells the story of one woman's disillusionment with the current vision of America, while "Support Our Troops" is sung by Sully, a Gulf War veteran who can't believe how our commander in chief has decimated the morale of today's armed forces.
Don't be cowed by the right wing. Join Beatnik in demanding accountablity and a nation based on democracy and freedom.
