From the Midwest of the USA comes 'A Girl Called Untouchable', a darkwave / electronica act tinged with ethereal gothic vocals and haunting synthesizers. The vocal style is reminiscent of Amy Lee from Evanescence, and when coupled with the minimalist use of synthesizers the effects are heart warming and emotional. The song style is heavily retrospective on the things in the world that are generally over looked, and also introspective issues of depression and loneliness. One poignant example of this is the song 'Invisible' which "Tells the story of a 6 year old girl who died around 1902 and is now a ghost in her old house" The influences of bands like Lacuna Coil, Evanescence and Switchblade Symphony are easy to hear, but the album isn't weighed down by them. Instead it sounds fresh, well balanced and solid. The debut album is a stunningly beautiful opus and a really refreshing change to the insubstantial forced angst and melancholy of the modern music scene, and instead harking back to melodic, alternative acts such as All About Eve and This Mortal Coil.

I like what I hear -- at least what little of it there actually is. It's very minimalistic (of such is a word), but I disagree with the references made with Amy Lee.
It would be insulting to compare A Girl Called Untouchable to Evanescence which bascially ripped off the sound of Lacuna Coil. If the clips say anything about them, they'll sound nothing like either bands. I would associate A Girl Called Untouchable more with that of "emo-goth." I consider Switchblade Symphony to be darkwave, and even The Machine In The Garden which sounds a lot like Switchblade Symphony, is a little different from this band. The sound is sparse and sleepy. It recalls a haunted lullaby. My favourite track is "December." It's something that will envoke the scent of blaque.
Ashes to ashes...

Bio:
A Girl Called Untouchable began in December 2003 in Clinton, MO USA by its sole member, Amanda Theiler. Amanda was originally only a vocalist and lyricist with no intentions of ever playing her own instruments. But while trying to put together a rock band she decided to record one of her songs with music behind it so potential band members could hear the type of sound she was going for. The result was "Liar", the last track on the album "Bleeding Hearts". Originally, it was supposed to be a rock track, but the song had other plans. After recording "Liar" Amanda decided to continue doing her own music and began writing music for the album "Bleeding Hearts" in December 2003. As she wrote, the music took on a life of its own and grew into the beautiful ethereal gothic electronica played today by A Girl Called Untouchable.

The name grew from the misconception that many people have about others. They think that because of the way someone looks or acts that they are "untouchable" and nothing can faze them. The lyrics of A Girl Called Untouchable are meant to show the more hidden side of these so-called "untouchable" people; the emotional, introspective side that is not always brought to light. The lyrics touch on over looked issues in today's world, as well as a variety of emotions, and storytelling. From the beautiful ballads like "If You Listen Close" to the haunting "Invisible" to the industrial-tinged "Liar", A Girl Called Untouchable's lyrics are not just to be listened to, but thought about.

In 2003 A Girl Called Untouchable was signed to Ave Dischordia Records. The debut album, titled "Bleeding Hearts", was released on December 14, 2004. A Girl Called Untouchable has not done any shows to date but hopes to perform in the future. The cd "Bleeding Hearts" may be purchased online, but is not yet available in stores.

Interview:
Why this name?
The band name comes from the way that some people look at others and perceive them to be "untouchable" by their style of dress when they really are not. The lyrics really show that that is not true and that labels can be very deceiving.
Do you play live?
As of right now, A Girl Called Untouchable has not done any shows simply because the band has not been around long and not a lot of material has been written. I also don't really like to do covers of other people's songs, so the show would not be very long.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think that the internet has helped the music industry, especially independent musicians and labels because it is so easy to get your music out there and gain a fan base, where a few years ago the only way to do that was to tour, which for many indie bands isn't possible on a small budget. Now people from all over the world can hear new music, and not just what the larger labels are shoving done everyone's throats.
Would you still sign a record contract with a major label?
No, I really want to be hands-on with managing and promotion. I want to know what is going on with my career and trust someone who really doesn't care whether or not I succeed. Plus, I want to have total creative control and not have to worry about "Am I going to be able to sell enough records?"...
Band History:
I started A Girl Called Untouchable in December of 2003 after I'd been trying for almost a year to put a band together. At first I was just doing music to go with the lyrics so I could show others the general sound I was going for, but after a while I just got hooked on creating the music and not just the lyrics and vocal arrangements like I had been doing before. Up until then, I never had any experience in being an instrumentalist.
Your influences?
Switchblade Symphony was a major influence for the music of A Girl Called Untouchable, as well as older pre-"Fallen" Evanescence. Lacuna Coil was also an influence for the music. As for the lyrics, Evanescence and AFI inspired me a lot while writing the album. Towards the end of writing the album I also listened to "Abbey Road" a lot which no doubt had some influence on the music.
Favorite spot?
New York City!!!!!!!!! Or Switzerland, I went there in June and it was SOOOOOOO Pretty!!!!!
