As unique as its name, the band Aquahtenang creates a surprising blend of acoustic-based, alternative folk music with compelling vocal harmonies and multi-instrumental arrangements. This quartet of talented musicians performs its own original songs during lively, entertaining stage shows.

In July of 1992, Aquahtenang -- Ojibwa for "View from a hill" -- began its organic evolution. Aquahtenang's music is a blend of acoustic guitars, fretless and fretted basses, mandolin, percussion, and banjo. The sense of surprise is maintained by the talents of three different lead vocalists and the fresh, startling honesty of the lyrics. Though the band embodies a wide range of musical styles, a common thread is woven throughout the music creating a musical tapestry unique to this group.

Perhaps the most refreshing thing about the musicians of Aquahtenang is their balance. Though serious about their music, they don't take themselves too seriously. Good-natured, light-hearted banter punctuates their performances. Audiences from east coast to west have enjoyed the music and the musicians of this New Hampshire-based band.

Since their collaboration began in 1992, the band has independently released four full-length CDs and an EP of original material to critical acclaim:

The Climb (1995)
"There is a gorgeous ebb and flow to the time and space of this music."
The Boston Globe

Fragile as a Nail (1997)
"The album moves like a trickle of water on a bumpy path, taking unexpected twists and turns, but reaching the end in a flow of satisfaction."
The Boston Globe

"Their name's strange, but the music's great"
New Hampshire Sunday News.

She Reigns (2000)
"This is just about the perfect acoustic vocal album."
Kris Garnjost, Jam Music Magazine
