During the early days of country music, the accordion played a very important part. In later years the accordion was pre-empted by the steel guitar. True country accordionist are a very rare breed. Pee Wee King is a very fine country accordionist who gave the accordion much exposure with his beautiful recording of the Tennessee Waltz. The late Vic Willis backed the great Hank Williams with his accordion on Hank's early recordings. Marion Martin, accordionist with Doc William's Border Riders, contributed much to the country style accordion.Bill Monroe, and Roy Acuff also used the accordion on thier early recordings.
