In much of the world, the winter season means sparkling snow and festive holidays, sleighrides and spinning tops, Christmas and Hanuka, traditional music and popular tunes. This CD captures all these spirits of the season and more. An old folk melody recounts the miracle that inspired the Hanuka celebration. Music from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries features the journeys of magi and shepherds following the star of Bethlehem. Lively tunes conjure the celebrations for the night of the nativity and the spinning tops that characterize the happy Hanuka celebrations. Traditional cradle songs from Europe and North America recall the manger scene. Popular songs like Winter Wonderland and Santa Baby celebrate the season in more modern terms. There are old favorites here, as well as many things that may be new to you and may become new favorites.

The distinctive tones of the zither bring you this concert of holiday music from many times and many places. May it bring you happy days!
