After a rich career as musical director in many cities including Leipzig, Frankfurt a/M, Eisenach and finally Hamburg, Telemann bid farewell to the world with a last musical message. Shortly before his death in 1767, at the age of 86, he wrote "The History of Sufferings and Death of Jesus According to St.Mark."
This last passion forms not only a synthesis of his own life's work, but also a high point in the long development of "Passionsmusik" in general. Who else deserves this honor?
I reconstructed the incomplete work, gathered musicians, performing on original instruments as well as a choir and high profile soloists, for a world premiere in Antwerpen, Belgium.
