Andrew Maginley: The Baroque Lute
J.S. Bach, S.L. Weiss & A. Falckenhagen
Fanfare says: Very impressive indeed. Maginley is a highly intelligent player with an excellent, fluent technique always at the service of the music he is playing. Every movement he plays here shows a real sense of structure, each given a clearly defined shape, something not to be gainsaid with the lute. His voice leading, too, shows a real understanding of the counterpoint of Bach and Weiss, which consistently emerges with admirable clarity. High praise, too, for the rich variety of timbers and nuance Maginley draws from his instrument ... Excellent sound and an informative, well-written note by the performer further enhance this auspicious debut for the label" - Fanfare

Reviews of Andrew Maginley's debut album "Adam Falckenhagen: Sonate di Liuto Solo"
"I have fallen in love with this recording... The more I play it the more I like Falckenhagen's music and Mr. Maginley's playing" said Michael Peterson of Lute Society of America,
"a highly desirable and well considered debut from a lutenist of whom I hope we will hear a great deal more in the future." said David J Levy, English Lute Society Magazine.

About Andrew Maginley
Andrew Maginley lives in Germany and has performed throughout Europe and the U.S. As a soloist and a continuo player. He has performed at the Bachhaus in Eisenach Germany, birthplace of J.S. Bach, and the Bloomington International Early Music Festival. He has been guest lutenist/theorbist of the State Theaters of Stuttgart, Freiburg, Klagenfurt, and Graz. He has toured France with Jean-Claude Malgoire and has performed in festivals including Fesitval Oude Muziek Utrecht, the Berlin Tage für Alte Musik, Telemann Festspiele Magdeburg, as well as the Händel Festspiele Halle with the Stuttgarter Barock Orchester directed by Frieder Bernius.

Andrew Maginley is a New Yorker who began playing electric guitar as a teenager while studying illustration at the High School of Art & Design. "During weekends and through the summer I was usually playing with rock bands. After graduating from Art & Design, I went to the School of Visual Arts and made music and pictures side by side."
"By twenty, I had a bachelor's degree in fine arts and was playing electric guitar and lute whenever I could. I had trio at a jazz club in Manhattan, the Angry Squire, every Monday night. I started to bring the lute down to the gigs, and after the last set when the bar was clearing out I would play a short set of renaissance lute solos. One night the drummer said "Man, the way you play on the lute is really soulful, The lute is really your thing."
"Everyone in my family played music and sang. My father's family is from the Caribbean with African, Scots, Irish and Native Arawak ancestry, and my mother is of African and Native American decent, so the songs we sang reflected a great diversity."
Andrew Maginley obtained a Masters Degree in Historical Performance from Mannes, in New York, before moving to Germany on a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the Hochschule für Kunst in Bremen.
