REQUIEM, scored for chorus, soloists, full orchestra and organ, is Anthony Newman's stunning new composition of the ancient Latin mass for the dead. One of Anthony Newman's most profound and instantly accessible works, its spiritual message of peace and transcendence will have instant appeal to Classical, religious and contemporary music audiences. It is one of the rare Requiem settings by a major contemporary American composer. The recording features the same soloists and ensemble which gave the work's historic premiere in October 2000, in New York City.
For over three decades, the multi-gifted Anthony Newman has been in the public eye as a prolific composer, and as America's leading organist, harpsichordist and Bach. His concert and recording collaborations include Wynton Marsalis, Kathleen Battle, and Itzhak Perlman. No less prodigious as a composer, his works include solo concertos, symphonies, keyboard works, sacred music, and a controversial opera NICOLE AND THE TRIAL OF THE CENTURY, on the infamous O.J. Simpson criminal trial in Los Angeles in 1995. His compositions have been heard in Paris, Vienna, Budapest, Krakow, Warsaw, New York, and London. In 2000, Anthony Newman was appointed Artistic Director of BachWorks New York, one of the city's leading chamber orchestras.

• “Mr. Newman had his forces on edge, their nerves were alive. One number flowed into another with compelling inevitability.â€
