Music Archive » Classical » New Age » GEORG MERTENS-MOUSSA: Re-issued
The CD is a compilation of a variety of guitar music from the Renaissance to 20th century compositions from South America.
The album was first edited on cassette in 1990. The cassette became known as "the Blue Cassette". I decided to re issue this compilation after I was repeatedly approached by owners of the cassette who begged me to put it on CD, partly parents whose children wouldn't go to sleep without it.
I added for this CD edition my favourite pieces of my first LP "Alte und neue Musik fur klassische Gitarre" (Lueneburg 1983): Weiss Fantasy and Dowland's Queen Elizabeth Galliard.
On the 1983 recording I play a "Kohno 30" guitar, on the 1990 recording a guitar made by Juan Lopez Aguilarte (Grenada, Spain).
To my knowledge the CD includes only recordings of "Passamezzo' (track 8) and Fuhrmann's "Bourree" (track 9).

Georg Mertens (same as Mertens-Moussa 1990-2002) was born in Aachen (Germany), studied at the Staatliche Hochschule f. Musik in Freiburg with Anton Stingl (after he had finished his diploma for cello). He toured Europe several times and moved in 1985 to Australia.
Georg plays also guitar on the CD's: "Blue Mountains Gypsies" with the Paganini Duo and "Sounds of Timber" together with Jodie Goldney.
