Alan Zychek has been an active proponent of new piano music for over 10 years. He has relentlessly challenged the confines of harmony and rhythm, developing a deeply personal and unique style of musical expression.
His music is alien, desolate - yet strangely comforting - rewarding the listener with luminous sonorities that pulse with life.
As a pianist, he has performed internationally, emphasizing 20th century repertoire and extended piano techniques. He is a graduate of California Institute of the Arts, and currently resides in New York.
Alan Zychek's new cd, "Piano" represents an attempt to bridge classical piano technique with modern musical sensibilities. Included are 21 new piano pieces performed by the composer that function individually, and as movements in a single, cohesive work.
The CD opens with a dazzling piano solo by Stephen L. Mosko.
"Piano" exposes a huge spectrum of emotion, and leaves you feeling raw. It's truly unlike anything else you've heard.
