Alex Mauldin began playing the piano at the age of four and started composing around 11. After high school he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston Mass. and returned to N.C.
The hallmark of his style is an ability to convey many emotions within a piece of music and give a ferocious vitality to the solo piano genre. A well developed technique provides him with a large palette of colors to draw from and is tempered with a sensitivity to the needs of the composition...he seems to have the rare ability to know when "less is more". On occasions when "more" is called for, his fire and passions are unleashed with a a fury that reminds one of the late 19th century Romantic era pianists that conjured both angels and demons simultaneously.
Currently he teaches private lessons and performs in and around North Carolina. A new cd will be recorded in late 2004. The CD "Considerations" is a wonderful introduction to this artist, and will certainly leave the listener anticipating the "live concert experience", where most who have heard him say, "that's where the magic becomes very real".
